Strathmore was on the 2024 storm track
On August 5, 2024, thunderstorms built over the foothills and moved east across Calgary. CatIQ, the agency that tracks Canadian catastrophe losses, said one of the most damaging cells crossed northern Calgary and then Strathmore. Environment Canada received reports of golf-ball-size hail in Strathmore and in Lyalta, between Strathmore and Calgary.
Strathmore homes were part of the more than 130,000 claims from that storm. Because the storm’s headlines were about Calgary, some Strathmore homeowners never had their roofs checked.
Open prairie, wind-driven hail
Strathmore sits on open prairie east of Calgary. Storms arrive with little to slow them down, and wind-driven hail hits roofs and siding at an angle. That typically means:
- the heaviest damage on west- and north-facing slopes
- dented eavestroughs and downspouts on the windward side
- cracked vinyl siding and torn screens on the same faces
We inspect each slope separately so the claim reflects the real pattern of damage, not an average.
Strathmore homes and roofs
Strathmore has a mix of older bungalows near the town centre and newer two-storey homes in communities such as Lakewood, Wildrose and Strathmore Lakes Estates. We also work on acreage homes across Wheatland County. Older homes may have two layers of shingles, which should be included in the tear-off on an insurance estimate. We check that it is.
Our process in Strathmore
- Free hail roof inspection with photos of each hit and test squares on every slope. See hail roof inspection.
- Claim help. If the damage supports a claim, we explain how to open it and meet your adjuster on site.
- Estimate review. We compare the insurer’s scope with what the roof needs.
- Repair or replacement by our own crew, usually one to two days.
Many Strathmore owners choose a Class 4 impact-resistant roof when they replace. Book an inspection with the form on this page or call [403-XXX-XXXX].
