Airdrie’s hail record
Airdrie sits just north of Calgary, squarely inside the corridor Alberta forecasters call Hailstorm Alley. The city has been on the path of several major storms:
- August 2014: a run of severe storms across the region, including Airdrie, totalled about $450 million in insured damage.
- June 13, 2020: the storm that devastated northeast Calgary also hit Airdrie and Rocky View County.
- August 8, 2026: Environment Canada warned of quarter-size hail and damaging winds for Rocky View County near Airdrie and Crossfield. The heaviest part of the storm tracked down the Crossfield–Airdrie corridor, and power went out for more than 2,100 customers in northwest Airdrie and the surrounding county.
If you had hail on August 8, see our August 8, 2026 storm update for what to check.
Airdrie homes and roofs
Most of Airdrie was built from the 1990s onward, and growth since 2010 has added large communities like Reunion, Bayside, Coopers Crossing, Kings Heights and Windsong. That means:
- many roofs are original builder-grade architectural shingles, now 10 to 25 years old
- lots of two-storey homes with attached garages and multiple roof planes
- open, flat terrain with little shelter from wind-driven hail, so west-facing siding and slopes take a beating
Older areas like Big Springs, Fairways, Hillcrest and Midtown include bungalows and split-levels, some on their second roof.
How we work in Airdrie
The process is the same as in Calgary. A free hail roof inspection with a photo report comes first. If there is damage that supports a claim, we help you open it, meet the adjuster on your roof, and check the estimate before any work is scheduled. Most replacements take one to two days.
Airdrie homeowners hit more than once often ask about Class 4 impact-resistant shingles. We quote them side by side with a standard replacement.
Before you sign with a door knocker
Storm chasers work Airdrie streets after every big Calgary-area storm. Check for a Service Alberta prepaid contracting licence, a WCB clearance letter and a real local office before signing or paying anything. Our storm-chaser guide lists every check.
